
Dr. Anthony Zimmermann MBBS, FRACP.
Doctor Zimmermann graduated from Adelaide University ranked 4th on the Dean's Order of Merit list in 1995. He completed Specialist Medical Training in Internal Medicine with an emphasis on Diabetes and Clinical Endocrinology at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Lyell McEwin Hospital, Repatriation General Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide. He has specialist skills in Diabetes including continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pump management; Endocrinology assessment and management; and Cardiovascular risk assessment and management.
Doctor Zimmermann has been working as a senior staff Specialist at the Lyell McEwin Hospital, Elizabeth Vale, Adelaide since 2003. He has been the Head of Diabetes and Endocrine Services, Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) since 2013. His unit was awarded a SA Health Award in 2017 for Enhancing Hospital Care for his project titled, "Moving Diabetes Outpatient Care into the 21st Century" and again in 2018 for Excellence and Innovation in Aboriginal Health for a project titled "Integrating Care - Closing the Gap on Diabetes". He is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at the University of Adelaide. He is an enthusiastic mentor for undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees and has earned citations for excellence in clinical teaching, School of Medicine, University of Adelaide in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. He is a Principal Investigator for the Australasian Diabetes Data Network (ADDN3). He was the Convenor for the successful Endocrine Society of Australia (ESA) scientific Clinical Weekend held in Adelaide, South Australia in August 2018.
Doctor Zimmermann is married and is the father of three children. He is an enthusiastic cyclist and Life Member of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) cycling club. Other interests include good food and wine, reading, photography and travel.
